Hi Sally,

I have not been getting any e-mails recently either, even though I've been to the website several times and followed all of the instructions.

I'm concerned, that many other people may not be receiving e-mails either...

and I'm wondering if it would be helpful for the folks who are managing the transition, to randomly select a number of folks from the old list, to use as a "test sample" so they can monitor how the transition is going for the list members...

all best wishes,

Rosa

Hi Folks,

The problem you are experiencing is not on your end; it's on ours. Some users of the Group Facilitation Forum, like yourself, aren't receiving emails and others are. We've narrowed it down to an addressing issue on the server and are searching through coding to find and fix the problem. Unfortunately it's a time-consuming task. You will start receiving emails as soon as the problem is corrected.

Thank you for your immense patience as we continue to work out the kinks and I apologize for the extreme inconvenience.

When is this scheduled to go back to automatic email delivery?
Or is it back and I'm not getting emails?http://www.iaf-forum.org/images/smilies/confused.gif

I also participate on a number of lists with charitychannel.com. They recently (last few months) switched over the same style of web based/forum based system and ended up abandoning this approach for all of their forums to go back to the tried and true and higher particpation listserve.

Hi Friends,
I also am having problems receiving E-mail notification of forum postings. A month ago I had an E-mail exchange with one of the IAF people about this problem. I was told they are working on the problem and thank you for my patience. Yesterday I logged on to the forum Web site to see if there might be any explanation as to why I'm still not receiving any E-mail notification of posts.
I can't precisely recall, but wasn't there previously a subscription option under My Profile > Edit Forum Subscriptions something like "Instant notification by email." Now the only options showing are: No email notification
Daily updates by email
Weekly updates by email
As a test I checked "Daily updates by email" and indeed I did receive today notification of Gayle's post. Apparently this was sent as a daily summary. I would very much like to hear from the IAF what the outlook is for instant email notification of posts.
Cheers,
Chris.

PS: Note that I received notification of Gayle's post, not the post itself, or even mention of Gayle's name, only notification that someone had updated Sally Murfitt's thread "I'm not getting any emails through any more."

PPS: Yesterday I found and described above the options for My Profile > Edit Forum Subscriptions, but today I've looked and looked and can't find it anywhere! (Today I do find My Profile > Edit Options and the Default Thread Subscription Mode in the Messaging & Notification section, which does have an Instant email notification option.) Is anybody else expereincing apparently changing menu options?

I, too, am receiving only "notifications" of postings by daily email, not the actual contents of the posts themselves. This behavior is NOT what I had expected and enjoyed for many years nor what I understood was promised would be available with the web-based system.

So, my question is: can we ever expect the previous functionality - which I and many others seem to have thought appropriate and sufficient - to be provided?

Those of us who have spent many years assisting others define and implement automated work-support systems do understand how there can be "many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip." Nevertheless, I do feel that there is a certain amount of egg on the corporate face here in this particular transition. After all, aren't we the ones who advertise ourselves as knowing best how to do it right? Since I have no idea who is involved in this, I am certainly not pointing a finger at any one in particular, just venting a bit of my frustration at this point.

Hi Friends,
As I mentioned in the PS to yesterday's below post, I received notification but WITHOUT the text message of Gayle's post. Today I received notification WITH the message text of Ramon's post.
E-mail notification of forum posts behaves in very mysterious ways! True, I tried changing various options when I was trying to track down the problem mentioned in the PPS to yesterday's below post, so maybe that's the origin of today's new behavior. Certainly there's not any explanation with the subscription options that would enable me to understand what's going on. Another possibility is that forum administrators are experimenting with changing settings on all accounts or on the accounts of certain individuals. Could whoever it is who is working on this make themselves publicly known? How is this forum going to get working correctly without some kind of public process or discussion thread where we all can see what's going on and give feedback? (Those who aren't interested in how sausage is made can just ignore the thread.)
Cheers,
Chris.

Here's the current status of the Instant Email functionality. This message was sent to all Forum members on July 21st.

Dear IAF Forum User,

Several of you have been asking about the status of the Instant Email functionality, so I thought I'd send out a quick update. We have been unable to successfully combine the List Serv and Forum technologies at this point in time. Future software releases look promising, but we have not been given a specific release date.

For now, you have 3 options of viewing posted messages – online, daily digest, and weekly digest. We realize that many of you prefer NOT to log into the website, so we are revamping the Daily Digest to better meet your needs. By end of August, it will include the text of all new postings for that day along with a click-to-reply link. This will allow you to view all the postings for the day and respond, if desired, without going to the website. One other glitch, the current version of the Daily Digest is only sent when there is a new or updated posting on the Forum. So you may not receive one every day. This too will be corrected in the new version.

If you are not receiving any Daily Digests from the Forum, please do the following:

1. First, Check your SPAM filter for any emails from customerservice@iaf-forum.org (customerservice@iaf-forum.org) or with the Subject Line of “Group Facilitation" update.
2. If the SPAM filter looks fine, then log into www.iaf-forum.org (http://www.iaf-forum.org/) and go to ‘My Profile’. Select ‘Edit Options’ from the list on the left-hand side of the screen. Scroll down the center of the page to the section titled “Messaging & Notification”. In that section, make sure your “Default Thread Subscription Mode” is set to Daily Email Notification.

We will keep you posted as we continue to make changes.

I think I'm being missed off a list somewhere, somehow. I now receive daily digests, which is an improvement, but Tammy stated in her post that everyone received a message about the status of the forum on the 21st - which I didn't receive. I have checked my SPAM box, so it's not that.

Also, a small point - can I change the order in which posts are shown? I prefer to see the most recent at the top of the page, rather than having to scroll down to see the latest response. Is this possible?

Thanks,
Lindsay

While I now receive notification of posts to all active threads, it appears that the ONLY daily digests I am receiving are those containing new posts to "thread subscriptions", not the entire forum. And it appears that one "subscribes" to a thread only by making a contribution to it, hence the only time I have received any digests at all are when I or others have sent a reply to one of those "subscribed" threads. By implication, any new threads can thus never result in a "subscription" to anyone but the person originating it (at least from my present understanding).

This behavior doesn't accurately reproduce the the original LISTSERV functionality. "Digest" has always meant "show me ALL the postings to all the threads over the time interval selected." Please restore the original functionality.

It seems to me that the attempt to make the GF list better/easier has made it die. I am one of those whose address was not able to get the technology sorted out.

I know that Tammy and team have made a heroic effort to make the new system work, so I feel sorry for them. We had a few exchanges or the transition. I realize this is vacation time in much of the Euro-North America areas, but it would be very good to get an update on what the thinking is on the tech that does not work as expected/advertised.

Although it would be a shame to let the list die, what are others doing to fill the gap that this change has made? Are people focusing their energic exchanges on CTI, TrDev, and ODnet instead?
(There are several regular names from here that I do not see on them however!)

Best,

Jay the mostly lurker on most lists.

"It seems to me that the attempt to make the GF list better/easier has made it die." (Hay's post).
To me, this list is dead (albeit hopefully temporarily). In its previous format, this listserve was one of my favourites (if not the favourite) - I truly felt inspired by a lot of the discussions and postings.
I do receive the daily updates. However, logging on to read posts is not an option I prioritise - it takes that extra little time/effort that I don't want to spend, and it might happen twice a month. It also takes away the dynamic nature of the list that I can't quickly scan the postings as they appear.
I know the team has worked extremely hard on this and personally I have had excellent personal follow up with my technical problems in this transition period. But as a list member I have to say that for me personally (and I realise we probably all have different prioritities here) this list has died, and I don't see any value added by this new format. I would be extremely happy if we could back to our previous format - to me, that was perfect.

All best,
Hege

Ditto on this end. I'm just getting an occasional "0" new threads and "1" updated thread messages. I have subscribed to the forum and all relevant digests...not sure why I'm not seeing the daily digest either. I haven't seen a facilitator q/a for a couple of weeks now...Bill:rolleyes:

I've not had any emails through since "we" moved over to this new system

Which makes it pretty redundant as far as I'm concerned

Me neither. Has it been fixed yet?

The email system is being fixed and should be working within a week or two at the latest. It takes time to work out the glitches when you do something new (forums with email options don't exist, so it's being written custom for the IAF).

Be patient - it won't be long. Thanks.

Yes and no about being fixed - The fact that I got a notice telling me you posted, means progress has been made in getting the system to work.

However the overall dual method of use - forum to go to, and mail list - will not work until a new version of this software comes out. For many of us, this is a death knell for GPF as we do not have time/willingness to go to the board to read.

Sad choice that was made on what sounds like incorrect info from the vendor/programmer (that yes it will enable both methods to co-exist).

For Gary - Sorry I posted at the same time as you did or missed your post before writing this. Does your response mean that the new version of the software is ready and being installed? If so, then there is hope. If not, too bad for us.

Sigh.
